A place to reflect
A special place for everyone
Our beautiful church garden is the result of years of work by a team of dedicated volunteers. This peaceful space, with its lawns, flower beds, shrubs and memorial trees, has been lovingly transformed from the pastureland it once was when the land was gifted to the church in the 1960s. Volunteers continue to meet weekly to look after and nurture this special place.

Special services
The garden provides a lovely setting for our Easter services — beginning on Holy Saturday and continuing with a special sunrise service on Easter morning, a memorable and moving experience.
At Christmas, the Crib Service is a great way for children to connect with the story.
In the summer, we sometimes hold Sunday services outside to make the most of the warm weather.

Caring for wildlife
We believe God calls us to care for the world around us, that involves protecting nature and looking after the environment we’ve been entrusted with.
Our garden has been thoughtfully designed to support wildlife, with areas such as a bug hotel, hedgehog house, log piles and bird boxes. There’s also a woodland path with stumparies, a willow tunnel, and a managed meadow where wildflowers can thrive
Our goal is to preserve Edwalton Church’s natural beauty for generations to come.

Protecting biodiversity in our churchyard
Our historic churchyard is an equally special place. Alongside the graves and memorials, it provides a peaceful space for reflection and an important habitat for many plants and animals.
Once likely meadow or pasture, the graveyard has remained largely undisturbed for over 150 years, with no chemical treatments. Today, amongst the headstones and grassed paths, around 40 notable trees — many dating from Victorian times — support a rich variety of life. Within 500 metres, more than 85 species have been recorded, along with nearly 60 types of moth and over 70 varieties of wildflowers and grasses on site.
We care for graves and historic headstones, reseeding where needed. Our aim is to protect this biodiversity while keeping the churchyard a welcoming place for burials, visits and reflection.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Garden volunteers needed
Caring for the garden relies totally on volunteers (with specialist support when needed). Our Gardening Club meets every Saturday morning throughout the year (except Christmas and New Year). Come along whenever you can – there’s no need to commit every week, and no experience is required.
We’re always delighted to welcome new volunteers of any age – it’s a great way to get involved and help care for this special place. Just get in touch for more information.

REASONS TO CELEBRATE
Silver Eco Church Award
We’re delighted to have received a Silver Eco Church Award. This recognises churches where care for the environment is part of everyday life — from how we worship and teach, to how we run our buildings, care for our land and encourage sustainable living. It reflects an ongoing commitment, not just a one-off effort.
Our services are relaxed, welcoming, and all about worshipping together.
Whatever your age or stage in life, there's always something going on here for you.

If you’d like us to pray for you or include someone in our prayers, please do get in touch.
If you feel able to give, your support makes a real difference to everything we do.
